Abstract

This paper investigates the process and significance of integrating these two modes of transport. At the very beginning, the history of integration is discussed, emphasizing the need for such an approach, especially in the context of a modern and efficient transport system. Various solutions applied in practice are examined, and examples of significant projects from Europe and Asia are presented. Among them are projects such as the door-to-door system and SESAR synergy, which have demonstrated how integration can improve efficiency and reduce transport costs. The paper includes a brief digression on the potential impact of such integration on the transport network in Serbia. The possibility of application and an assessment of how sustainable this integration would be under domestic conditions are analysed. Additionally, a comparison of the state before and after integration in various regions is made, concluding that integration has led to significant improvements in transport, including reduced travel time, increased accuracy, and better coordination of different modes of transport.
