Abstract

The maintenance of railway vehicles is one of the most important activities that directly affects the safety of railway traffic, but it also represents a significant cost. Modern diagnostic systems have significantly improved the continuous monitoring of railway vehicles and increased the efficiency of condition-based preventive maintenance. Visual inspection is the basic and most common procedure for diagnosing railway vehicles. This paper describes a device for inspecting the undercarriage of locomotives, developed at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Niš, where the vehicle stands on the track, and the device ATUVIS (Autonomous Undercarriage Visual Inspection System) moves under the vehicle and performs the inspection of the rotating stand.
