Abstract

The aim of this paper is to demonstrate procedure to design horizontal and vertical railway track alignments as well as cross sections  using computers and advanced information technologies. Furthermore, this paper presents the application of BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology and its advantages for planning and design of transport infrastructure. Creating digital models in order to present the object as 3D and automatic generating and updating project data has become a standard in design process, whether it is about building new or reconstruction of existing railway line. The paper analyzes the possibilities and functionalities of various software tools as a part of  modern planning and design process. The generation of railway line elements for the two variants of railway track is conducted via specialized software Ferrovia kompanije CGS Labs.
