OVERVIEW OF CITY RAILWAY SYSTEMS FOR PASSENGER

Abstract

The trend of urban development in the world requires the construction of complex systems for public urban and suburban transport of residents. Considering the mass of urban and suburban, as well as regional passenger flows, the most efficient railway systems have been the urban railways, light rail (LRT) and heavy metro. Their advantage is not only in the mass transport of passengers, but also in a number of environmental effects, planning and spatial effects, reduction of external costs and, especially, in planning the sustainable development of cities and regions. The paper presents various passenger transport systems, some of which are applied in the Republic of Serbia, as well as specific solutions in developed countries of the West and East. The goal is to present the world solutions and thereby make the choice of project for Serbia, easier and faster.
